Experimental investigation about second mode disturbances in hypersonic boundary layer on a cone with different length of ultrasonically absorptive coating (UAC) is carried out at M∞ = 5.8. For the first time it is shown that UAC could both stabilize and destabilize second mode disturbances. Lengths range of UAC with maximum efficiency of passive porous coating is found.
